Effective communication with teens

Let's Talk 🙃

book cover_edited.jpg

The link between teenage mental distress and cannabis use raises important questions about causation. Research indicates that societal pressures—such as loneliness, bullying, and social media—can lead to mental distress, potentially pushing teens to turn to cannabis as a coping strategy. On the other hand, cannabis use itself may exacerbate mental health problems, including psychosis, particularly when it involves high-potency products. To break the cycle of mental illness and substance dependence, it is vital to tackle the root stressors, such as improving school culture, ensuring safe neighborhoods, and addressing issues like poverty and social justice. These efforts can help alleviate pressures on teens and ultimately reduce cannabis and other substance use.

This health promotion booklet provides educational resources that informs teens and families about cannabis and other substance use, to raise awareness and help them understand the harmful effects on their physical and mental health, while promoting healthier coping strategies.
